As one of the largest cities in England, making up one eighth of the English Core Cities Group with such others as Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol, the city of Sheffield has a prominent reputation as one of England's main metropolitan areas. Having grown exponentially in both industry and culture in recent years, visitors to Sheffield are just as likely to be conducting business meetings and attending seminars as they are to be indulging in the creative arts and music pursuits which the city has to offer. In spite of its modern cityscape and highly populated urban areas, the city of Sheffield has more trees than any other European city. Because of this, Sheffield hotel locations can vary greatly between being central to the city's numerous bars, restaurants and nightlife spots and sprawling country style mansions amidst green, picturesque settings.
When visiting Sheffield hotel choices are largely influenced by the intent of your stay. With a large number of attractive, modern locations situated in the heart of the city, visitors looking to enjoy the local nightlife are able to choose from a wide range of hotels, each offering the typical amenities of 24 hour reception, room service, as well as hotel bars and restaurants. In addition to the city's many unique, state of the art hotels, there are also a number of familiar chain brand hotels to choose from which offer ideal service for overnight or otherwise short stays. Due to its status as one of England's major cities, many visitors to Sheffield are there on business or related issues and many of the hotels in the heart of the city are equipped with meeting rooms and banquet halls suitable for functions. However, the usual Wife and television services which can be found in these city central hotels are also available in the city's more secluded hotel suites.
With rolling lawns and personal lakes, Sheffield hotel choices need not be limited to those which cater to the city. Some of the more rural hotels make use of Sheffield's natural scenery and abundance of trees, with the option of outdoor activities including fishing and BBQ facilities to choose from. Given the nature of the surroundings, many of these hotels cater to a more relaxation orientated clientele and so feature health and fitness clubs, spas, jacuzzi and sauna rooms as standard.
As Sheffield is one of the largest main cities in England, visitors to the city often gravitate towards the local nightspots, with hotels situated within easy walking distance of the city centre. One of the key streets to visit on a night out is Ecclesall Road, which is home to such bars, clubs and restaurants as Nonnas, Champs and the Lescar. In addition to its nightclubs, Sheffield is also famed for its many live music acts, with a large number of bands originating from the city and an even larger number returning to play there again and again. However, the city is not just popular for its many nightlife venues. During the day, there are endless shops and cafes to visit, with everything from boutiques to department stores. The Devonshire Quarter is widely renowned as the best place to shop in the whole of the city, while Meadowhall shopping centre is fitted with almost 300 stores to choose from.
Despite its modern appeal, Sheffield is a city with as much history and culture as any other area in England. The Sheffield Walk of Fame is a favourite with tourists visiting the area, as it documents the names and activities of Sheffield's most famous residents, both past and present. Outside of the city centre, a number of garden spaces and greenhouses feature the city's famous natural beauty, with the southeast of the city actually overlapping with parts of the Peak District National Park. However, the natural charm of the city is not limited to its outskirts – the Heart of the City Project includes a 0.67 hectare site known as the Peace Garden located directly in the centre of the city. As well as its many attractions, Sheffield has the largest complex of theatres outside of London, with The Crucible continuing to host the World Snooker Championships every year.
